The number of Chinese households ranks first in the world, with about 430 million households, accounting for about one-fifth of the world. In recent years, the number of people in the family has been declining. Before the 1950s, there were 5.3 people per family on average, but this number has shrunk to 3.0 today.

Xinhua News reported a data that the number of people living alone at age 20-39 is close to 20 million.

In Europe and Asia, small apartments are a necessity: often the space in metropolitan regions is only sufficient for one or two-room homes. In North America, small houses have become hugely popular, often for reasons of economy. In all cases, small homes are cheaper and easier to build than larger ones.

The decrease in time spent cooking for themselves in favour of ordering food and eating out. Online research performed by the Xinhua News Agency (reproduced below) shows that 44% of millennials eat at home just two days a week or less.

04 RESEARCH

Reseach
Region+capture+69.png

According to the consumption priority survey for Chinese people living in cities, we can see that people spend a large part of the money on eating. Actually, the importance of eating well always plays an important part in Chinese culture.

/ Frequency of eating at home for young people

Though in Chinese culture the 3 meals every day are important parts of our daylilies, some even take them serious as formal as rituals.

However,  from the survey of  Frequency of eating at home for young people we notice that for some reason, the younger generations tend to eat outside or call food delivery, which are not as healthy as homemade meals cook by themsleves.

/ Onsite survey finding the reason

To find out the reason for the growing up number of the young generation choose not to cook themselves. I went on an onsite survey for several young people.

The outcome of the survey is surprising. As we use to think that the young generation no longer taking the food culture as important as the elder Chinese people do. However, after the survey, we noticed that- they care, but they can't- they want to eat well but they don't have that time and energy to do

/ Conclusion of the researches

The outcome of the survey is surprising. As we use to think that the young generation no longer taking the food culture as important as the elder Chinese people do. However, after the survey, we noticed that- they care, but they can't- they want to eat well but they don't have that time and energy to do that.

So, I am wondering can I design cookware that can save the time of cooking.

05 Design Process

/ Analyse the process of cooking a meal

To find out how to save time and the annoying parts of cooking, I first research on the whole process of cooking a typical Chinese food.

/ The idea

From the process flow above, the idea of combining the plates and the pan formed up, which do saves a lot of time.

To develop the idea, I start to think about the structural part of combing the pan and plate.
